Liam Scales is in limbo between clubs as he tries to get a move sorted away from UCD, according to manager Collie O'Neill.
The Republic of Ireland under-21 international seemed locked in for a move to Bristol Rovers.
But a late approach from Fleetwood Town has stalled progress for the former UCD captain, who played his last gmae for the club a month ago.
And, ahead of the Students clash with Derry City tonight, O'Neill admitted to the Irish Mirror: “At the moment, it’s a limbo situation.
“We’ll just have to see if he will come back playing for us until it is all sorted out and finalised.
“There’s no confirmation of anything. It’s a holding pattern. Fleetwood have come in for him too but I think Liam had already appeared happy to go to Bristol Rovers.”
