Liam Scales completes Celtic move as Ange Postecoglou backs Irishman for Hoops success

Celtic have completed the signing of Liam Scales on a four-year deal.

The defender joins from Shamrock Rovers where he was a major part of their title winning team.

He played his final game in the Dublin hoops on Thursday night as they crashed out of the Europa Conference League.

And he’s now made the move to Celtic, subject to international clearance, and could even be involved on Sunday.

Celtic face Rangers in the first Old Firm derby and could be without first choice left back Greg Taylor after he suffered a shoulder injury.

The defender limped out of Celtic's 2-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night and it meant teenager Adam Montgomery was thrust into the action.

Now Scales could play a part if he gets clearance in time and Ange Postecoglou has backed him to impress at the club.

He's been chasing squad depth since he signed and Scales can offer options at left back or centre back.

And he said: “Liam is a young player who has impressed us and is someone who we think has the potential to have a big future at Celtic. He is an athletic defender who has the ability to play in a number of positions.

“As I have said before, everyone at the club has been working hard to add depth and quality to our squad and in signing Liam I think again we have made good progress. We all look forward to welcoming Liam to Celtic and to start working with him."

The 23-year-old made 50 appearances for Shamrock Rovers before making the move to Celtic Park.
