Liam Scales called up to Republic of Ireland squad in place of injured Ryan Manning

Celtic defender Liam Scales has been called up the Ireland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan after Ryan Manning was ruled out through injury.

Scales recently joined Glasgow giants Celtic from Shamrock Rovers and has earned a call up from Stephen Kenny.

Swansea star Manning was an injury doubt heading into the international window and has been forced to withdraw.

Scales will now be available for selection for Saturday's clash against Azerbaijan and could feature against Qatar in their international friendly next Tuesday.

Ireland's game against Azerbaijan is due to kick off at 5 pm on Saturday evening Irish time with the game being played in Baku.

They will then face Qatar at 7.45 pm on Tuesday at the Aviva Stadium.
