Liam Payne says Cheryl romance was hell as she was so worried about looking good in pics

Liam Payne says being a showbiz couple was hell as his former partner Cheryl was so worried about looking good in pictures.

The former One Direction star, 26, got together with the ex-Girls Aloud singer, 36, back in 2016, and they quickly became one of the most photographed couples in the business.

They were together for two years, and had a son together, Bear, before splitting in 2018.

Liam has now confessed the constant pressure of having to look good for the cameras took a toll on their relationship.

He confesses at times it took them an age to even "get out of the door" as his ex was so worried about looking good in pictures.

During an appearance on podcast Table Manners with Jessie Ware , he explained: "Cheryl's had that [pressure] for her whole life.

"If you were going out somewhere, it would take so long to get out of the door 'cos you're so worried about what that shot's going to look like."

He added of his doomed romance: "Around each other, we kind of rubbed off on each other in a bad way.

"It was neither of our faults because we'd both been through so many circumstances.

"All of that stuff [fame] put so much pressure on the relationship.

"Say going out for dinner, but now I don't give a s**, it's been far too long [fame putting pressure] on relationships..

"I am not going to sacrifice my happiness any more."

However, Liam is worried the same issues may affect his new romance with model Maya Henry, as they are certain to attract attention as a new couple.

He insists his main concern is that Maya too becomes preoccupied with what she looks like when she's having her picture taken all the time.

Liam said: "With my new relationship, I hope she sees herself the way I see her.

"I often do worry, with her getting her picture taken all the time, I chose this life but for her it's a different sacrifice."
