Liam Payne matches red carpet as he steps out in striking cherry suit in Berlin

Liam Payne is following in the fashion footsteps of his former bandmate Harry Styles this evening as he donned a striking red suit, fitting for a red carpet event.

The former One Direction star, 26, attended the 2020 Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony in Berlin.

The dad-of-one looked dapper as he posed in his matching blazer and trouser combo, which he teamed with a crisp white t-shirt.

He accessorised the look with a silver triangle necklace and chunky lace-up black boots.

Liam was joined on the red carpet by former Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton, who looked radiant in a fitted black sleeveless dress that left her incredible tattoos on show.

The star was invited to the event to take to the stage and perform for the audience.

He changed into a matching pinstripe trouser and bomber jacket co-ord for his moment in the spotlight at the global sports awards honouring the highest achieving sportsmen and women across all sports.

Ahead of his performance, Liam said: “It is going to be a special evening of celebration in Berlin and I’m looking forward to playing my part on the night.

“From tennis to boxing, football to surfing, sport has always been a big part of my life.

“Much like music, it can give people hope and bring communities together.

“I’ve been inspired by the stories and achievements of this year’s nominees and I’ve heard about the brilliant work Laureus has done to help young people through sport.

“I’ve personally experienced the positive impact sport can have so I’m a huge supporter of that."

Olympic legends Jessica Ennis-Hill and Tanni Grey-Thompson and reigning Formula One world Champion Lewis Hamilton were pictured rubbing shoulders with the likes of Ruud Gullit, Wladimir Klitschko and Boris Becker.

The annual event, which held its first bash in 2000, recognises the best individual athletes in the world and the best teams in a number of different categories.
