Liam Payne jokingly suggests Brexit is real reason behind his split from Cheryl

Liam Payne has jokingly suggested that the real reason behind his split from Cheryl is Brexit .

The former One Direction star made the quip as he said he couldn't see himself settling down in the near future.

The couple, who share two-year-old son Bear, split last year after more than two years together.

He told Men's Health : "I haven't really managed to settle. Since my breakup and then moving... who the f**k knows?

"Everything happens five years earlier in my life."

He added: "I should just blame Brexit. It's f*****g Brexit. I'm single... with a goal."

It comes as Cheryl laughed off speculation that the hunky man in her music video was modelled on Liam.

When it dropped last week, fans were convinced Cheryl's hunky co-star looked just like her ex Liam Payne .

The track sees her sing about sex and seems to suggest she's been left unsatisfied by a previous lover, but she said it's nothing to do with Liam, the father of her two-year-old son Bear.

During an exclusive chat with Mirror Online, the Geordie beauty said: "Have you seen him?

They were together for more than two years (PA)

"He doesn't look like Liam, I think it's just because he's got tattoos.

"It's always going to happen though, people are always going to say it's about my exes.

"Even if I didn't write a song myself people would say it was about one of my exes."

The 35-year-old added: " When I write music, I'm not writing about anyone in particular, I'm just drawing from experiences that I've been through and things that I've felt, but it's not really about any person in particular.

"But I do understand that people are always going to jump to those conclusions, there's nothing I can do about it, I just ignore it."
