A handful of Liam Payne ’s fans have insisted that they already knew that the One Direction star had called it quits on his engagement with model Maya Henry.
The 27-year-old star, who was engaged to his stunning fiancée for ten-months, recently revealed that he was single during on Steven Barlett’s Diary of a CEO podcast.
During the honest chat, Liam insinuated that the engagement came to an end because of his own issues with past relationships, and his “bad patterns” of “hurting” the ones he loves.
While the news of the breakdown of his relationship is only just now emerging, die-hard One Direction fans have claimed they knew something was off a number of days ago when Liam made a flippant remark online.
Both Liam and Maya had done a brilliant job of keeping their split under wraps until they felt the time was right to announce the end of their relationship.
But eagle-eyed fans picked up on something “strange” when Liam admitted that he was pining for a new pooch on social media.
It came as a surprise to his adoring admirers given the fact that the Strip That Down hitmaker had gifted his fiancée a puppy at Christmas.
Fans quickly joined the dots, and realised that Liam was longing for a new dog because he was no longer living with Winston - the pooch he and Maya once shared together.
Taking to Twitter after their split announcement, one fan pointed out: “S**t that explains why he said 'what's that dog? I want one' when I was asking 'where's Winston' *cries*."
Elsewhere, another replied: “Yeah, did nobody else find this really obvious? Wasn’t it strange the way he was always alone and the dog was nowhere to be seen? I’m not one bit surprised. I saw it coming to be honest.”
Liam and model Maya Henry first started dating in 2018, making their relationship Instagram official in October 2019.
However, cracks started to show amid the pandemic.
They moved in together during the first lockdown but sparked separation rumours in 2020 when they weren't seen together - even on social media - until the Black Lives Matter protests in London last summer.
Then in late August, they were spotted out at a restaurant with Maya wearing an enormous diamond ring on her left hand, and sources close to the couple confirmed they were engaged after two years together.
Liam had popped the question with a £3million ring and the pair looked set for marital bliss.
But in a shock move, Liam insinuated it was his decision to end their relationship.
"I know I was the problem and I have to sort myself out. I already feel good. It's got me more concentrated and I hope she's happy."
“I feel like more than anything at this point, I'm more disappointed in myself that I keep on hurting people.
"That annoys me. I've just not been very good at relationships," he confessed.
"And I know what my pattern of things is with relationships at this point.
"I'm just not very good at them so I just need to work on myself before I put myself on to somebody else.”
