Liam Patterson-White signs first professional contract with Nottinghamshire

Academy graduate all-rounder Liam Patterson-White has signed his first professional contract with Nottinghamshire.

The 20-year-old joins the full-time staff on a three-year deal after forcing his way into the first team on the back of a string of impressive Second XI performances.

A left-arm spinner and middle-order batsman, Patterson-White made his first-class debut against Somerset at Taunton in July, where he claimed a maiden five-wicket haul.

He has since garnered a further 11 wickets in his two subsequent appearances, as well as scoring his maiden fifty against Yorkshire.

“It is an absolute privilege to have signed my first pro deal. It’s not really sunk in yet,” said Patterson-White.

“I’ve been working towards this dream for a number of years and to achieve it is really special.

“My next goal is to cement myself in the red-ball side next summer and continue the form I’ve found at the end of this season.

“I’ll be putting hard graft in over the winter to improve my consistency and to show people how much I want to play for Nottinghamshire.”

With 16 first-class wickets to his name at an average of 20.75, Patterson-White has benefited from the education of bowling in tandem with Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin.

“For a young player, the first professional contract is always a special moment because it tends to mean they’ve achieved a longstanding ambition,” said Notts head coach Peter Moores.

“Liam’s attitude and performances since coming into the side have been outstanding.

“He’s a local cricketer who has come through the age-group and Academy system, played some good cricket in the seconds and got his chance in the first team on the back of that.

“It makes him a good example of how the pathway should work. And once he was in the first team, his performances have been enough to show that he has a bright future.”
