Liam Neeson to star in new thriller set in Ireland

Liam Neeson is set to star in a new thriller set in Ireland.

According to Deadline, the Ballymena man will take a lead role in new film, 'In The Land Of Saints And Sinners'.

It's reported principal photography is being lined up for March 2022 in Ireland.

Actor Ciarán Hinds from Belfast will also star in the thriller.

The movie is set in a remote Irish village, with Neeson playing 'a newly retired assassin who finds himself drawn into a lethal game of cat and mouse with a trio of vengeful terrorists'.

The Northern Irish actor will work again with The Marksman director Robert Lorenz.

In the 2021 action thriller, Neeson played a retired marine living on the Mexican border, trying to save a mother and son being hunted by a cartel.

Earlier this month, the Ballymena man appeared on RTE's Late Late Show to talk about his latest project, producing an international film on the Tuam Babies scandal.

He opened up about how plans to produce the movie came about.

He said: “A friend of mine, Amy Hynes, she's my walking partner in New York, three years ago, she sent this article by Dan Barry a New York Times journalist and said 'Liam, have you read this?'

"And then I read this article by Dan about Catherine and the discovery of the babies underground, 796 babies who are of course still there in septic tanks.

"I read this, and I couldn't find the words. I'm Irish and I was brought up a Catholic and a very strong Catholic and I was filled with emotion. I was filled with horror, and I was filled with embarrassment.

"For the first time in my life and I've made some 93/94 films, I never felt this way before. I was lying onto my bed, I shot up straight and I thought I'm going to do something about this. Whatever celebrity status I have in the film world, I'm going to do something.”
