Liam Neeson says he's ready to retire from action films

Liam Neeson has said that he's finally ready to retire from doing action films.

The 68-year old actor has been widely recognised in recent years as a leading man in blockbuster action movies, following the breakout success of 2008 film Taken.

But Neeson told Entertainment Tonight this week that he's finally ready to hang up his hat when it comes these type of roles, and he cites his age as the main reason.

He told the publication: "I'm 68 and a half. 69 this year. There's a couple more I'm going to do this year - hopefully, Covid allowing us - there's a couple in the pipeline and, then I think that will probably be it. Well, unless I'm on a Zimmer frame or something."

Despite this, the Ballymena-born actor said that he still very much enjoys doing action films.

"I love doing 'em. I love beating up guys half my age," he said.

"I've just finished one in Australia and I had a fight scene with a kid - lovely, sweet actor called Taylor - and halfway through the fight I looked up, I was breathless and it didn't cost him a cent, and I said, 'Taylor, what age are you?' He said, '25.'

"I said, 'That's the age of my eldest son!'"

No wonder he's feeling his age!

Neeson's next upcoming role is as a retired mariner in Mexican border action thriller The Marksman, which is out in US theatres this Friday.
