Liam Hendry murder: Sadistic killer 'showed no remorse and got a kick out of watching CCTV'

The family of murdered Glasgow teenager Liam Hendry say his killer showed no remorse.

In a statement made outside the High Court in Glasgow after Dean Wright was jailed for 22 years , the teenager's parents William and Margaret branded the killer "sadistic".

It read: "Murder is not entertainment, what you see on the television is nothing like reality.

"What you don’t see on television is the cruel aftermath and the lifelong devastation when a person - a complete stranger - decides to wilfully and recklessly steal life from someone you love.

“We as a family will never ever recover from this perverted sadistic and evil act that was inflicted on our beautiful and loving son, Liam Hendry. He was only 18 years old."

Wright was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life behind bars after deliberately mowing down Liam with a Transit van close to Celtic Park on September 29, 2019.

The teenager suffered horrific injuries after he smashed his head on the windscreen and was thrown into the air.

Wright, 32, then attempted to murder others who to tried to help the dying teenager, driving the van at them too.

Jurors were shown CCTV footage of the incident, including the desperate attempts to save the teenager in the street.

The statement adds: "There is no sentence long enough for what that evil creature did and we witnessed that ourselves in court.

“There wasn’t an ounce of remorse shown, quite the opposite in fact.

“He looked like he was getting a kick out of watching his own actions as the CCTV of Liam’s last moments were being relayed."

Liam's family added that Liam had unconditional love for his parents, brothers, family and Celtic Football Club.

The Crown Office released a video of Wright driving the van minutes before taking aim at young Liam at Glasgow's Barrowfield and a still image showing damage to the vehicle.

Speaking the killer was sentenced this morning, David Green, procurator fiscal for homicide and major crime said: "The sentence imposed upon Dean Wright today is reflective of the brutal and sustained nature of his crime.

"Liam Hendry's family have suffered a devastating loss and our thoughts are with them as they attempt to come to terms with what has happened."
