Liam Henderson tipped for Serie A as top pundit insists 'phenomenal' former Celtic youth is wasted at Lecce

Liam Henderson is ready for the step up to Serie A and is being wasted in the Italian second tier, according to a leading pundit and coach.

Vincenzo Sicignano is adamant the Scot should be playing at a higher level than Serie B's Lecce.

Henderson has enjoyed previous spells at Verona, Bari and Empoli but it's with his new club he's won most praise.

And ex-Napoli, Parma and Palermo keeper Sicignano has declared his admiration for the "phenomenal" former Hibs and Celtic star.

He said: " Liam Henderson is clearly Lecce's best player this season and that doesn't surprise me at all.

"In Serie B, a player like him is absolutely wasted.

"It's a real luxury for Lecce to have someone like him in their team. He's a phenomenal player who shows real quality and can play all across midfield.

"For me, he should be playing in Serie A with a big club.

"He can play as a holding midfielder, but I think his best role is just behind the strikers as an attacking midfielder.

"Lecce did extremely well when they signed him for this season."
