Liam Henderson bags first Empoli goal as he targets Serie B surge

Resurgent Liam Henderson bagged a first strike for Empoli - and immediately set his sights on climbing Serie B.

The former Celtic and Hibs star sealed a January move to the Gil Azzuri on loan from Hellas Verona.

That was despite interest from Easter Road in bringing him back to the Premiership.

Empoli powered to a 3-1 win over Crotone on Saturday and Henderson was among the goals.

The pivotal result sees Empoli move three points clear of the relegation playoff places - and Henderson reckons things are already looking up.

He said: "We know how important this match was for us so I am very happy with my goal and the victory.

"I have already seen the quality of the players here, the coach (Pasquale Marino), so now we must look to the next game and climb the table."

They next face crucial fixtures against Pisa - just two places above them - and Citadella before the end of February.
