Liam Hemsworth was reportedly left ‘heartbroken’ after pictures emerged of his wife Miley Cyrus kissing Kaitlynn Carter while on a girls’ trip to Italy.
The actor confirmed his split from the singer last weekend after the photos were splashed across national and international newspapers, as rumours circulated that the pair may have split as early as July.
The couple were forced to publicly confirm they had broken up after Miley was spotted snogging Brody Jenner’s ex while sailing around Lake Como.
Sources told Page Six: “He was heartbroken and blindsided by those photos”.
Since the photos emerged, 26-year-old Miley has been seen back in LA, with The Hills star Kaitlynn still by her side.
It is the first time that they have been seen back home, after their kiss was described by sources as two friends "just having fun," rather than the start of a serious relationship.
The pair’s break-up was announced by their reps via a statement, which read: "Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time.
"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers.
"They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.”
Both sides have blamed each other for their 8-month long marriage crumbling, with allegations of “substance abuse” and “immaturity” thrown both ways.
It has also been suggested the Wrecking Ball star became tired of 29-year-old Liam's "moody" behaviour and his wild partying.
