Liam Gallagher questioned by police over 'altercation' with girlfriend at London club

Liam Gallagher has been interviewed under caution over what police called "an incident consistent with assault" at a popular London venue.

Police said they had been made aware of footage, published by The Sun in August, which appeared to show the former Oasis star in a confrontation with his girlfriend, music manager Debbie Gwyther

The Sun claimed that the footage showed Gallagher grabbing Gwyther around the throat at the Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone, which is a popular spot for celebrities.

Gallagher later denied assaulting Gwyther in a post on his social media, saying he had "never put my hands on any woman in a vicious manner". Gwyther called the report a "pack of lies" and criticised The Sun for not seeking a comment from her.

A spokeswoman for the Met said: "Officers are aware of footage of an incident consistent with assault believed to have taken place in August 2018 at a licensed venue in Chiltern Street, Marylebone.

"The footage has been assessed and inquiries will be made into the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident. On Wednesday, September 25 a man attended a central London police station where he was interviewed under caution. No specific allegations have been received at this time."

The spokeswoman added that no arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

The Independent has contacted Gallagher's representative for comment.
