Liam Gallagher credits Irish mum Peggy for 'any good that comes out of me'

Liam Gallagher has credited his Irish mum Peggy for playing the role of both his mother and his father.

Growing up witnessing his father’s violent behaviour in the home, the ex-Oasis star said that his Irish mammy is responsible for anything good that came out of him.

Speaking as part of a Father’s Day special alongside his three kids Molly, 21, Lennon, 19, and Gene, 17, Liam told The Sunday Times Magazine: “I got nothing from my old fella, all from my mam.

“Any good that comes out of me is all from Peggy and all her sisters and brothers - they were a good, close bunch of people.”

Despite not seeing his dad Thomas in almost 30 years, the Manchunian musician added that he never felt like he was missing a father figure in his life thanks to his mother’s love.

He said: “The last time I saw my old fella, I was 17 or summat.

“I’m kind of glad that he weren’t there. But I never. But I never missed a geezer being around because my mam was pretty much both.

Gushing about the lessons he learned from his Mayo born mother, he said: “She was there with the cuddles, she was also there with the whack. I’m generalising dads there [because] dad give cuddles as well.

“But if I needed bringing down a peg or two, she could do that, as well as elevate me.”

“She was a mother and a father figure.”

When asked if he felt his dad was a bad role model, the former Liam said: “No, he wasn’t. He was a shit husband. He was all right with me, to be fair.”

However, he added that he didn’t suffer the same abuse his father inflicted on his mum and older brothers, Noel and Paul.

He said: “No, not with me. But I’ve seen him being violent with everyone else, which is not cool.

“He was violent with my mam, which is bad, but with me he was half decent, which is even more fucked up because you’re seeing that and you’re seeing this.”

Meanwhile, addressing rumours of his own violent behaviour, Liam he set the record straight on the CCTV footage which showed the booze-fuelled star grabbing at his girlfriend, Debbie Gwyther’s throat.

He said: “Nothing happened. We just had a disagreement, there was drinks involved, it was all blown out of proportion and it was all sorted the next day.

“It got way blown out of f****** proportion as far as I was concerned.”

Pointing to his kids, he added: “The next day I apologised to all of these.

"Not because there was anything malicious in it, but because it was in the press, going ‘Look, it wasn’t like what they’re saying’.

“I apologised to Debbie’s parents and my mam and the kids, cos it’s just bull****."
