Liam Gallagher announces Down By the River virtual reality gig - where he'll be performing from a boat

Liam Gallagher has got the band back together (no, not that band) for an exclusive performance.

The former Oasis frontman was spotted sailing down the River Thames late last week.

Videos shared on social media show snippets of the singer surrounded by flashing lights and a full band while drifting through London.

It's for his upcoming Down By The River Thames virtual event, which will be streamed globally next month.

Filmed on a barge, the performance will include several Oasis hits as well as songs from Liam's solo career, some of which he hasn't performed for years.

The virtual concert will have an ever-changing backdrop of some of the capital's most famous landmarks.

It will be streamed globally on December 5 on virtual reality platform MelodyVR, which will use technology to put the at-home audience at the heart of the action.

Liam said: "To all my brothers and sisters around the world. I'm performing a one-off celestial live performance for you to stream, 'Down By The River Thames', on 5th December 2020.

"I'll be performing tracks from my two number 1 solo albums as well as some stone cold Oasis classics, some of which you haven't heard me sing for a long, long time. C'mon you know. LG x."

During lockdown, he has taken part in the mass doorstep sing-a-long event Together In One Voice, as well as joining in with an installment of Tim Burgess's Twitter Listening Party.

Down By The River Thames will be streamed at 8pm local time across the globe, with tickets priced at £16.50.

Liam will also be releasing a special collector's edition of his album Why Me? Why Not on November 27, which will include 14 seven-inch singles.

Tickets will go general sale from 9am on Friday November 13 at LiveNation.co.uk.
