Liam Delap has been left out of England’s Under-21 squad for the European Championships this summer as he will be appearing for Chelsea at the Club World Cup.
Delap joined Chelsea from Ipswich earlier this week after the Blues activated the £30million release clause in his contract.
The striker was due to be part of England’s Under-21 squad for the European Championships in Slovakia, where they are defending the crown they won two years ago.
But he is now set to be part of Chelsea’s squad for the Club World Cup in the USA, which kicks off this month.
Head coach Lee Carsley, who signed a new contract earlier this week, has named a strong squad, though.
Tottenham midfielder Archie Gray is among the 23-man group and so is Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri.
There is no place in the squad for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, however, who has not played since the FA Cup final, when he suffered concussion.
The defence boosts Newcastle’s Tino Livramento and Jarell Quansah of Liverpool, while Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott is also included.
Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham - who is being heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund - is also in the squad.
Dortmund are playing at the Club World Cup, but Bellingham looks set to play for England’s Under-21s at the European Championships regardless of whether he joins the German club.
England will kick-off their campaign in the group stage against Czechia on June 12, before they take on Slovenia three days later.
Their final group game against Germany takes place on June 18, before the competition heads into the knockout phase with the top two teams from both groups progressing to the quarter-finals.
