Liam Cooper set for Scotland recall as Steve Clarke holds talks with Leeds defender

New Scotland boss Steve Clarke has moved to bring Liam Cooper back into the international fold.

Record Sport can reveal Clarke has held positive discussions with the Leeds defender about a recall for the Euro 2020 qualifying double-header with Cyprus and Belgium next month.

Cooper dazzled for Leeds as they came so close to earning promotion from the Championship.

The 27-year-old was first called up under Gordon Strachan but was deemed surplus to requirements by Alex McLeish who preferred Blackburn’s Charlie Mulgrew and Scott McKenna of Aberdeen.

Record Sport has also revealed Kilmarnock striker Eamonn Brophy has been put on standby for next week’s squad announcement.

Brophy was Killie’s top scorer in the season just finished under Clarke.

And he could be joined by defender Stuart Findlay, who was called into the last Scotland squad by McLeish.

Clarke is also set for talks with experienced stars such as Robert Snodgrass, James McArthur and Matt Ritchie, who had all made themselves unavailable for recent games.
