Liam Cooper sends message to Leeds United fans after passing important Premier League landmark

Liam Cooper has urged Leeds United fans to celebrate Premier League safety after beating Sheffield United, whilst dedicating the victory to Peter Lorimer, Chris Loftus and Kevin Speight.

Goals from Jack Harrison and a Phil Jagielka own goal either side of Ben Osborn's equaliser secured a 13th Premier League win of the season for the Whites.

The derby victory completes a double for Marcelo Bielsa's side against the Blades, with Raphinha at his brilliant best as he set up Harrison for the opening goal with a mazy dribble.

Three points takes Leeds over the magic 40-point mark and on to 42, all-but securing their status as a Premier League club, with Leeds 10th in the table and 16 points clear of relegation.

Whilst United have never been in danger of the drop all campaign, as a newly-promoted club, reaching safety is an important step for the club.

As a result, Cooper implored fans to celebrate with a drink with the clubs looking forward to another season in the top-flight.

The United skipper wrote on Twitter: "Remembering Peter, Chris & Kev. Always in our thoughts. The magic 40 point mark passed and counting! Be proud tonight and have a celebratory drink or 10. MOT"

Lorimer passed away on March 20, with the match against Sheffield United marking Leeds' first outing since his sad death.

Equally, Cooper paid tribute to the upcoming anniversary of Loftus and Speight's death, after they were killed on the eve Leeds' Uefa Cup semi-final tie against Galatasaray in April 2000.
