Liam Cooper reveals reason why he didn't join Leeds United earlier in his career

Liam Cooper has revealed he could have signed for Leeds much earlier in his career.

Cooper, 28, has been at Elland Road since 2014 following his arrival from Chesterfield.

The centre-half was born in Hull but has been a staunch LUFC fan since a young age.

And he has now spoken of how he almost had the chance to join the Whites much earlier in his career. Cooper was speaking during a special Q&A session via social media.

The club captain answered a range of questions and opened up on the subject after being asked who he supported as a boy.

Cooper revealed his family were a combination of Hull City and West Ham fans, but he chose to support the Whites instead.

"I actually could have signed for Leeds when I was younger," revealed Cooper.

"But it was hard, with the travelling from Hull.

"My brother actually played in the development squad here but it just got too much.

"So we both ended up signing for Hull because it was nearby and closer.

"But I always had that dream of playing for Leeds.

"I've exceeded those dreams by playing and now captaining the club now.

"My name is with a lot of greats at this club.

"Hopefully in a few years I can be remembered for a lot more and I take inspiration from that. I strive to be a legend (here) and be as good as those guys.

"I like to think I set a good example around the place and try and push people forward every single day.

"I'm enjoying being captain and long may it continue."
