Liam Cooper expected to seal impressive Leeds United campaign with international call-up

Scotland duty awaits for Leeds United captain Liam Cooper after his key role in the Whites’ best campaign in 15 years.

The 27-year-old featured 39 times in all competitions throughout 2018/19 at the heart of Marcelo Bielsa’s defence, winning plaudits from all corners along the way.

After being named in the Championship’s official Team of the Season, Cooper was then included in the overall EFL Team of the Season too, underlining his success.

Now, Scotland’s new boss, Steve Clarke, wants to bring Cooper back into the international fold, according to Daily Record.

This morning’s report reveals Clarke has already held discussions with Cooper and opened the door for his inclusion in the next squad.

Scotland face Cyprus and Belgium in Euro 2020 qualifiers on June 8 and June 11 respectively.

Cooper was called up by Gordon Strachan for squads in 2016 and 2017 but failed to win a cap.

The player never turned his back on his country but was overlooked by Alex McLeish, who preferred the likes of Charlie Mulgrew, Scott McKenna, John Souttar and David Bates.
