Liam Burt's Rangers to Celtic switch falls flat as Hoops 'release' midfielder

Liam Burt has reportedly been 'released' by Celtic with a year left on his deal at Parkhead.

The former Rangers midfielder crossed the Old Firm divide last summer to join the Hoops on a two-year deal, but it has not gone according to plan.

The Scottish Sun claim the 21-year-old is now on the look out for a new club after leaving Celtic.

Burt made the unpopular choice of moving from one Glasgow club to another in August, but it wasn't the first time he's made the switch.

Burt came through the youth ranks at Celtic and joined the Light Blues in 2014.

The Scotland U21 player failed to break into the first team at Ibrox, making just three senior appearances.

And that's been the common theme since he returned to Celtic Park. Burt impressed for the youth side, scoring seven goals in 12 games, but failed to get in front of the likes of Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor in Neil Lennon's side.

The club therefore choose to decline the option of a second year on his deal and will now be looking for a new team for the upcoming season.
