Liam Burt's Aberdeen plan revealed as midfielder bids to impress Derek McInnes

Derek McInnes has handed former Celtic and Rangers midfielder Liam Burt the chance to impress on trial at Aberdeen.

The 21-year-old was at Pittodrie for Tuesday night’s thumping win over Hamilton as a guest of the Dons after leaving the Hoops in the summer.

Burt had been training with Barnsley last month and also had a short stint on trial at Sunderland.

But the five-times capped Scotland Under 21 international is still on the lookout for a club as a free agent and has taken up the offer of a trial stint at the Dons.

McInnes said: “We just invited Liam to come and train. He will train with the development squad over the next few days and we will have a look at him.

“Because we knew we had a couple of practice matches coming up we thought it was a chance to get him in to have a look and for him to have a look at us.

“It’s no more than that."

Burt watched on from the stand as Aberdeen prepared for a weekend clash with Celtic by sweeping Accies aside in a 4-2 thriller.
