Liam Burt 'released by Celtic' as former Rangers kid sees Parkhead dream turn sour

Liam Burt has been released by Celtic with one year remaining on his contract, according to reports.

The Scotland Under-21 international made his professional debut at Rangers but was released in May 2019.

He then made the controversial move of signing for city rivals Celtic, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.

But The Scottish Sun is reporting the 21-year-old's deal has been cut short and he's free to find another club.

Burt had been in the Celtic youth system before making the move to Ibrox, where he made three first team appearances.

He failed to make an appearance for the Hoops senior squad but did feature for the Colts side in the Challenge Cup last season.

After returning to Celtic Park he said: "This is my boyhood club and, ever since I left, I’ve wanted to come back.

"I was around eight when I first joined Celtic and I left at Under-12 level.

“Then I was at Rangers for around eight years. Towards the end of last season, I just wasn’t enjoying my football.

"I had a talk with Rangers and expressed my feeling, they expressed theirs and we parted ways."

"Willie McStay was always back and forth with me. I had other options, but this was my main focus.

"I’m hoping to start every game in the reserves, score more goals and catch the manager’s eye.

"It’s all down to impressing every day in training.”
