Liam Brady and Richie Sadlier involved in heated RTE debate on Stephen Kenny's future ahead of Ireland v Portugal

Liam Brady and Richie Sadlier were involved in a heated debate on Stephen Kenny's Ireland future before Thursday's clash against Portugal.

The pair were in the studio for RTE and had differing views on if Kenny should be handed a new contract by the FAI.

Brady stressed that the two wins last month were only against Qatar and Azerbaijan and claimed that Ireland would have been "well-beaten" by Serbia if it wasn't for young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.

He added that the "jury is still very much out" on Kenny and thinks the FAI should wait until next summer before considering giving the former Dundalk boss a new deal.

Things then got heated when Brady asked host Darragh Maloney why Kenny should be given a new deal before he accused Sadlier of "changing his tune".

He then said this was Ireland's worst qualifying campaign in the last 20 years before Sadlier said it was "understandable" why some results had been so bad.

Sadlier went on to highlight a number of players who have only broke into the senior squad in recent months and hit back at the accusation that he had changed his tune by saying he had "kept an open mind".

The debate sparked plenty of reaction on social media, with one person saying: "Brady - Sadlier is fantastic television. The sniping is box office."

Another tweet read: "Liam Brady on losing it with Richie Sadlier."

Someone else said: "Why is Liam Brady haranguing Richie Sadlier?"
