Liam Boyce sets himself Hearts John Robertson challenge as he looks to recapture best Premiership form

It's well-known that Hearts fans have been starved of quality strikers to watch in recent times.

Brilliant goalkeepers, stoic defenders and dreamboat midfielders have come and gone but no frontman has managed a 20-goal season since John Robertson a whopping 30 years ago.

And that's the target Liam Boyce - who has accomplished the feat twice for Ross County in the Scottish Premiership - has in mind.

Boyce is already on four strikes for the campaign after six games, grabbing three in the Premier Sports Cup group stage before netting what turned out to be the difference against St Mirren last weekend.

And he said: “I think it’s like any striker, you want to get to 20 goals each season.

“It’s the sign of a good season, unless you’re Ronaldo or Messi or whoever!

“I’ve done it before at Ross County, I had good seasons there where I ended up top goalscorer.

“I just think it’s all about momentum.

“When you get a goal as a striker and you get a couple of games when you’re scoring, it hits off you and goes in and you don’t even think about it.

“People in our team will create chances with their quality and I know they’re going to come, so you just have to keep getting into the right areas, whether you’re on a run of form or not.

“Eventually it’s going to go in some way, so the more times you get yourself into those positions the more chance you have of getting 20.”
