According to the EPA, the average American spends roughly 90 percent of their time indoors where concentrations of pollutants, including dust mites, pet dander, human skin, and other irritants, are often two to five times higher than they are outside.
Have you ever thought about what this means for your closet and what you wear every day? The fabric of your clothes effectively acts like a furnace filter, screening out indoor, airborne toxins, until you put them on your body.
I recently discovered this cleaning my closet out from top to bottom. I could not believe how much dust was sitting on top of my clothing, especially the pieces that haven’t had an occasion to see the light of day in months.
Before my husband and I moved to our current house, we had an LG washer and dryer, which we loved. One of my favorite features was the steam cycle on the dryer, which I could use to refresh many of our household items including our clothing, particularly during our seasonal closet clean outs. We recently moved and inherited a washer and dryer—while they not terrible, they aren’t LG and the dryer doesn’t offer the steam feature. So after discovering what was accumulating on my clothes, I decided to look online to see if there were any standalone steam closets that could resuscitate my wardrobe.

That’s when I found the LG Styler.
While it doesn’t take the place of the dry cleaner or an iron, this smart-home appliance extends the life of dry cleaning, makes your clothes smell fresh while removing allergens, dust, smoke, and sweat, and will perfectly press any pair of pants you have. The Styler does not require plumbing, just an electrical outlet, making it flexible enough to fit into a mudroom, laundry room, master closet or anywhere in the home.
“When we looked at consumers’ pain points around laundry, one of the things we found is that they don’t enjoy going to dry cleaners or the costs associated with dry cleaning their clothes. Oftentimes, we heard that consumers were dry cleaning clothes that weren’t actually dirty OR not dry cleaning clothes that could use a refresh often enough. These insights led to LG Styler—a simple, chemical free option for refreshing your clothes and extending their “life” in between must-have dry cleanings. In short, it helps people look their best every day without the hassle”, explains Taryn Brucia, Director of PR for LG Electronics.

LG Styler offers a first-of-its-kind clothing care system that removes allergens—something an iron could never do. Brucia tells me, “When developing Styler, we also understood the benefits of steam in not only refreshing, but also sanitizing clothes. Since we know that millions of American suffer from allergies, which often attach to fabrics, we developed LG Styler to remove 99.9% of allergens, which is what earned us the asthma and allergy friendly approved designation from the Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America. LG Styler is the only one of its kind to have this.”
Allergies seem to be getting worse every year, and clothing and bedding are among the leading culprits that transfer irritating allergens into and around the home. For the more then 50 million Americans who suffer from allergies, LG Styler is an effective way to create a healthier home.
“LG’s trademarked TrueSteam technology is what sets LG Styler apart. The power of steam, sustained at the right temperature, along with the gentle moving hangers, eliminates 99.9% of allergens and odors, and reduces wrinkles in as little as 20 minutes. And it’s not just for clothes—pillows, stuffed animals, and more can be placed in the Styler,” explains Brucia of the technological differences when compared to competitors.
The Styler isn’t simply about cleaner, fresher clothes, however. The slow drying function is perfect for delicates that have to be hand washed. Brucia tells me, “The slow drying function is perfect for just-washed delicates that require air drying. By facilitating the drying process in LG Styler, fabrics not only dry much faster, but also come out without wrinkles. It’s also great for sweaters that, if you’re like us, often get spread out throughout the home to dry for nearly an entire day. LG Styler gets it done faster without taking up real estate on clothing racks, chairs, and tables.”
The Styler comes with hangers for your garments, but the rack at the bottom is specifically designed to refresh and sanitize down blankets, bedding, sports equipment, hats, and, in our case, stuffed dog toys as well. The rack is especially great for pillows since they can be hard to wash—particularly decorative ones. Brucia adds, “My trick: load the Styler with your outfit the night before and just ask the Google Assistant to turn it on as you head into the shower in the morning.”
LG Styler can be started, stopped and monitored from any place at any time using the LG SmartThinQ® app on your smartphone, available on Android and iOS devices. You get notifications remotely when a cycle is finished, can check energy usage, troubleshoot minor issues with LG’s Smart Diagnosis, and most importantly, download additional settings for textiles like leather and fur. The touchscreen interface is easy to use or you can activate the appliance with simple voice commands using Google Assistant.

Aesthetically, the Styler is sleek in its design and handsome looking, especially in the espresso glass finish. At the recent CES show in February, LG announced they will be releasing a mirrored finish unit next year, which would make a sleek addition to any dressing room. LG also showcased a unit with the capacity for five hanging garments, which allows for two more articles of clothing than the existing unit, but they haven’t made an official announcement about when that product will be available yet.
Brucia continues, “With LG Styler, LG offers “the ultimate laundry room” (featuring LG Styler and TWINWash washer and dryer) that enables users to wash large loads every week, and refresh items every day. With LG Styler for daily refreshes, the innovative LG SideKick™ for small loads that can’t wait, and advanced washers and dryers, the LG Ultimate Laundry Room keeps your family’s clothes looking, smelling and feeling great—every day of every week.”
