Liverpool fan stabbed with needle and 'feared for his life' in Paris attack

A Liverpool fan has spoken of fearing for his life after he was attacked with a needle amid terrifying scenes in Paris.

Brad Young's dream weekend in the French capital turned into a nightmare after he and his friends were targeted by local gangs on the way out of the Stade de France. Brad, 24, had won tickets to the final in a competition just days before the match after missing out in the ballot.

Brad, from Belfast, said: "We actually booked flights and accommodation as soon as the final got moved to Paris. We couldn't get tickets but were just going to go and watch it in the fan zone. I couldn't believe it when I won the competition and won tickets just four days before the final."

Brad and his friends travelled to Paris and said the atmosphere in the Liverpool fan zone was 'brilliant' before the match. They managed to avoid some of the worst of the scenes outside the ground before the game, as thousands of Liverpool fans were forced into dangerously small areas before being targeted with pepper spray and tear gas by French police.

But it was after the match when the nightmare really began. Brad said: "It was a strange atmosphere inside the stadium, there were so many empty seats and then there were lots of locals suddenly coming in to our section, we didn't know what was going on."

Bride told she wouldn't 'make it to 30' stuns guest on her wedding day

A bride, reduced the congregation to tears when she stepped out of her wheelchair and walked down the aisle.

Natalie Nowak from Southport was born with cerebral palsy and it was thought that she would not live to see her wedding day. Doctors told her parents she would never be able to lead a normal life.

Natalie stunned the congregation at St John’s Church in Ainsdale last month when in front of more than 100 family, close friends, and NHS staff who have supported her she stepped out of her wheelchair, took her dad's arm, and walked down the aisle. Her fiancé Andy, 32, had only ever seen Natalie walk a few steps and in his emotional wedding speech said: "Angels have wings, but my angel has wheels" the Mirror reports.

Incredibly, less than a year after spinal surgery, she managed to stand throughout the whole of their first dance, to Celine Dion’s Because You Loved Me, before partying on the dancefloor in her wheelchair until the early hours. As the remarkable 32-year-old joined her groom Andy at the altar, she proved, yet again, she really had defied all the odds.

And Andy is not the only person to be amazed by gritty, determined Natalie. During her inspiring life she has befriended Olly Murs and even climbed to the top of London’s O2 dome with the singer to help her raise £30,000 for charity on her 30th birthday.

Huge change coming to Liverpool roads this week

A new type of e-scooter will be rolled out across the city today in a major change for road users.

Europe’s leading e-scooter operator, Voi, will launch its new model, the Voiager 5 (V5), on Tuesday, which comes new and improved features as part of the company's mission to become carbon positive by 2030. The trial of e-scooters in Liverpool has been popular, although there were some concerns raised about safety, with changes made to the scheme.

Voi said safety remains its top priority, with the e-scooter company recently announcing a partnership with Lazarillo , an app that improves accessibility for blind and visually-impaired people. The company said it has also launched a new safety campaign “Let’s get it right” to continue to educate riders to follow the rules of the road and ride safely.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council, who are running the trial with Voi, last year heralded it as a success. The city will now join the likes of Bath and Bristol and other cities across Europe such as Bordeaux, Madrid and Milan where the new V5 model has already successfully been rolled out.
