Leyton shooting: Murder probe after young man shot dead on busy road in east London

Police have launched a murder investigation after young man was shot dead on a busy road in east London.

The victim is the second person to be fatally shot on the capital's streets this weekend.

Emergency services including armed police rushed to Lea Bridge Road in Leyton at 3am on Sunday.

They found a man, believed to be aged in his late 20s, suffering from a gunshot injury.

Paramedics battled to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene, Scotland Yard said. A second man was injured in the incident however it is not clear if he was shot.

No arrests are believed to have been made.

It comes after a man in his mid-20s was shot dead in Wembley on Friday evening.

A section of Lea Bridge Road near Leyton High Road has been cordoned off while police carry out an investigation.

A Met Police spokeswoman said: “Next of kin are yet to be informed. Formal identification has not taken place.

“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

“A second man, aged in his 20s, is being treated at an east London hospital for non-life threatening injuries.”
