Leyton Orient have appointed Kevin Nolan as their new player-manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal, replacing Ian Hendon who was sacked on Sunday.

Nolan, 33, has been without a club since leaving West Ham in the summer. He will combine playing for Orient with managing following the completion of his coaching badges and will take his first training session on Friday.

Hendon was sacked with The O’s 11th in League Two after they managed one win in eight league matches and were beaten 3-1 at home by Exeter City.

Orient said in a statement: “Kevin brings with him invaluable expertise and knowhow, with 17 years’ experience in high-level football.

“A number of strong candidates were interviewed by the chairman but Kevin’s hunger, desire and passion to succeed at Leyton Orient, coupled with his experience, were key in the decision process and the club believe they have the man to take Leyton Orient forward and improve the club’s position.”
