Lexington grocery workers vote to unionize

According to United Food and Commercial Workers Local 227, the ratification vote for Good Foods Co-op employees was Monday. Good Foods Co-op describes itself as a health-conscious grocery, and according to the union, the grocery will up its contributions for health insurance. A news release from UFCW 227 says employees will also receive guaranteed pay hikes and new holidays in which they’ll be paid time-and-a-half for working. The union represents about 20,000 workers in grocery, meatpacking, distillery and other industries in Kentucky and southern Indiana. Good Foods Co-op is on Southland Drive in Lexington.
