A teenager was knifed on a busy street in London during the morning rush hour.

The boy, thought to be in his mid-teens, was said to be in his school uniform and on a bus when a gang attacked him with metal poles and a knife on Lewisham High Street shortly after 8.30am.

A greengrocer said: “They got on the bus and beat him up with poles. They pulled a knife out and chased him to the front of the shopping centre and stabbed him. He was lucky to survive and looked so young.”

The boy was rushed to hospital where his condition was said to be serious but not life-threatening.

The road was cordoned off to traffic after the incident, which is thought to have taken place near a Poundland. There have been no arrests.

It followed a series of other incidents of violence over the weekend.
