Lewis Smith commits to new Hamilton deal as key man gives Accies huge boost beyond immediate Premiership return tilt

Hamilton have agreed a two year extension with Scotland Under-21 cap Lewis Smith.

The youngster was out of contract in the summer but Accies will confirm a new deal this weekend.

The talented attacker has penned a deal that will keep him at New Douglas Park until the summer of 2024.

The 21-year-old is one of Hamilton's’ main players having been given his first-team break under Brian Rice.

It is a major boost for Accies and current head coach Stuart Taylor ahead of their home clash with Raith Rovers.

Smith has made 60 appearances in total for the club with 13 of those coming since Taylor was appointed in August.

He has three goals and two assists this season amid a mixed season for Accies who still harbour loose ambitions of an immediate return to the Premiership.

But they will need to start racking up the points soon with a ten-point gap between them and Partick Thistle in the final playoff spot.
