Lewis Ritson is keen to help make Newcastle the fight capital of the UK as he prepares for his bout in the city next month.
The 27-year-old is set to fight a yet to be determined opponent at the Utilita Arena on October 16th, on a night where Savannah Marshall and Hughie Fury are also in action.
Ritson 's bout is the first of a co-promotional agreement signed with BOXXER, with the fight set to be televised on Sky Sports, and is setting his sights high.
The Newcastle fight icon is determined to help the city become the UK's fight capital and believes next month's event is the perfect starting point.
“It’s the start of BOXXER and Sky Sports, I’m just glad to be a part of it," the one-time British champion told ChronicleLive.
"It’s going to be a mad atmosphere in there, we’ve got loads of local talent on, it’s going to be a great night for North East boxing and it’s nice to be a part of that.
"I’ve been at the forefront of North East boxing for the past four years, it’s nice to still be a part of it with a new company and a fresh start.
“The atmosphere in the arenas for the past three or four fights have been unbelievable and it should be the same again. It’s been a while since big groups have been able to go out with each other and have a good night out.
"That’s what the occasion brings, the atmosphere and the lively crowd, we’re hopefully going to make Newcastle the fight capital of the UK so this is the start of that.
“We’ve got plenty of local talent now. Savannah [Marshall], she’s signed with BOXXER and Sky Sports, she’s obviously got a world title and is one of the leading ladies in Women’s boxing so it’s nice and hopefully we can keep building on it.”
