Lewis rewarded for breakthrough year at prestigious award ceremony

Lewis Capaldi is the joint most nominated artist at this year’s Brit Awards.

The West Lothian singer is up against the rapper Dave in four categories: best male, best newcomer, best single and album of the year.

Although Dave has already won the Mercury Prize for his debut Psychodrama, Lewis must be confident going into their showdown at the Brits on February 18, after becoming one of the most recognised faces on the planet in 2019.

At last year’s ceremony Lewis was only nominated for the Critics’ Choice Award but since then the Whitburn man has gone on to achieve international success with his breakthrough album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, charting in 29 countries.

The Whitburn star also released the most-streamed track of 2019. His hit ‘Someone You Loved’ was played over 228 million times on audio streaming services.

Last year Lewis was given a best newcomer award by MTV but this year he is already up for a Grammy as well as the four Brit nominations, and looks certain to win a slew of awards.

Despite his newfound stardom the down-to-earth popstar isn’t one for forgetting his roots. The Courier reported last week how Lewis had popped in to The Grange Bar, Fauldhouse, to catch up with old friends and fellow entertainers before Christmas.
