In-demand Lewis Morgan could be on his way to the Big Apple with the former Celtic ace poised to join New York Red Bulls.
The 25-year-old Inter Miami winger crossed the Atlantic at the start of 2020 and has been a major hit for the MLS new boys.
But the former St Mirren playmaker is now set for a £900,000 Red Bulls switch as Miami look to raise cash required to pay off an MLS fine for breaching competition financial rules.
The deal has been agreed by both clubs but won’t be signed off until later this month.
Morgan cost Miami around £400,000 when they signed him from Celtic and he has played a key role in establishing the club, part owned by David Beckham.
In September, he registered his 50th consecutive start having featured in every game in the newly-formed Florida outfit’s two-year history.
The Scotland international has hit seven goals and provided 12 assists during his time across the Pond.
He has been mainly used in a wing-back role by Miami boss Phil Neville this season but Red Bulls boss Gerhard Struber plans to return him to his preferred slot further forward.
Morgan joined Celtic from Saints in 2018 but was unable to establish himself in the Parkhead line-up.
He collected his only two Scotland caps under Alex McLeish during the tour of Mexico and Peru back in 2018 but covid restrictions have hampered his hopes of a recall since.
