Lewis Morgan exit blocked by Celtic as Nicky Hammond throws out Stoke City loan bid

Celtic have thrown out a loan approach from Stoke City for Lewis Morgan.

The struggling Championship side were keen to take the Scotland international to the Potteries for the second half of the season.

Stoke boss Michael O’Neill is keen to add more creativity to his side in the window and had included Morgan as one of his primary targets.

MailSport understands that Stoke asked the question about Morgan’s availability but director of football Nicky Hammond has made it clear that the Hoops are not interested in loaning him out.

The 23-year-old has previously had loan spells at League One Sunderland and former club St Mirren.

Morgan is also keen to nail down a top team place at Celtic under Neil Lennon rather than going out on loan again.

The talented wide man has come back into the team in recent weeks and scored in the Europa League against Rennes and also started in last week’s Betfred Cup final win.

Morgan moved to Celtic from St Mirren in January last year but has struggled to get a regular run.

Scotland is clearly a market that Stoke boss O’Neill is looking at as he is also interested in Aberdeen’s Sam Cosgrove and Ross County striker Ross Stewart.
