Lewis Morgan continues American dream as former Celtic star scoops Player of the Year in New York

Lewis Morgan has won Player of the Year in his debut season at MLS side New York Red Bulls, as he continues to thrive in America almost three years after leaving Celtic.

The winger was used in a variety of positions by Brendan Rodgers and Neil Lennon following his move to Parkhead from St Mirren. Eventually he left Scotland for Inter Miami in 2020, where he became a key man before moving to The Big Apple. Gerhard Struber's men play their final game of the regular season against Cincinnati on Saturday.

Now with 17 goals and three assists, the former Celtic star has been crowned Player of the Year by supporters of New York Red Bulls. Highlights in his season include a memorable hat-trick against Toronto FC when his new team came out 4-1 winners. Morgan spoke with Glasgow Live Sport earlier this year and insisted he hoped good form in the USA would put him in the frame for a return to the Scotland squad.

He said: "I am obviously desperate to try and get back in the international fold. I think I have played quite a lot of football out here at wing-back.

"Especially last year, and I think that lends itself quite well to the national team. I am always going to support the team regardless if I am included or not.

"I have just got to focus on myself and keep performing and try and put myself back in the plans."
