Lewis Hamilton seals 90th career pole position at Hungarian Grand Prix after edging out Valtteri Bottas

Lewis Hamilton claimed pole position for the 90th time in his illustrious Formula One career at the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday.

The dominant six-time world champion registered a new track record at the Hungaroring before edging out Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas by a tenth of a second to secure top spot on the grid for the seventh time at the Mogyoród circuit.

"I have to pinch myself," said Hamilton. "It doesn't register. It is quite humbling because I work with an incredible group of people.

"Valtteri doesn't make it easy for me so it requires absolute perfection when it comes to doing the laps and qualifying is one of the things I enjoy the most.

"The lap was nicely hooked up today. Nothing is a given here. I have got to deliver on the start tomorrow."

Racing Point duo Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez locked out the second row, with the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc consigned to fifth and sixth place respectively, ahead of Red Bull star Max Verstappen - whose team-mate Alex Albon will start down in a lowly 13th position - and McLaren pair Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz.

George Russell will start Sunday's race in 12th for Williams after making it through to Q2 in Hungary, one spot behind Renault's Daniel Ricciardo.
