The F1 movie has been nominated in four categories at the 2026 Oscars, which Lewis Hamilton has described as a "tremendous honour".
F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has received multiple nominations this awards season. The latest are for the Oscars, with nominations for Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
"This is so incredibly surreal," the seven-time champion posted on his Instagram story after serving as an executive producer on the production.
"It’s a tremendous honour to see the F1 movie nominated by the Academy, especially alongside such talented artists and storytellers. When we were making this movie we knew we had something special, real and authentic on our hands and it’s amazing to see everyone’s hard work and dedication recognised. Major shout to everyone who worked on this, so so deserved."
F1, which has surpassed $630million at the global box office since its June 2025 release, follows semi-retired driver Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) as he returns to Formula 1 with the struggling APXGP, run by his former team-mate Rubén Cervantes (Javier Bardem). With Hayes racing alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team has the final nine races of the season to win a race.
The star-studded cast also includes Kerry Condon as APXGP technical director Kate McKenna, Tobias Menzies as APXGP board member Peter Banning, and Kim Bodnia as APXGP team principal Kaspar Smolinski.
As it was filmed during the 2023 and 2024 F1 seasons, at real race weekends, the drivers also feature as themselves, including Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Talks are already underway about a potential sequel, although this is yet to be confirmed.
The 2026 Oscars, which will be hosted by Conan O'Brien, will air on Sunday 15 March at 4pm PT on ABC and Hulu.
