Mercedes
The favourites for the title. They've made the most impressive start in testing and have a very strong driver lineup. Being a works team they can evolve quickly, too. The turbo cars are going to be lively to drive with so much power and torque, and Lewis Hamilton is such an instinctive driver he should be very competitive.
They will also need a lot of careful thought and that's where Nico Rosberg's engineering brain could be strong. It could be down to the luck of the draw but I fancy Hamilton to win his second title.

Red Bull
I wouldn't write off Sebastian Vettel achieving his fifth straight title just yet. They clearly know what they are doing at Red Bull and they can turn it around.
It seems Adrian Newey may have been a bit too extreme with the packaging of his engine. That's what makes him such a great designer, he always pushes the limits but this time he's got some problems. They can put it right but the big question is how long will it take? The car looks very good and watching Daniel Ricciardo against Vettel will be very interesting.

Ferrari
They have a very decent package and, like Mercedes, as a works chassis and engine package they can evolve quickly. We haven't heard much about their fuel consumption, which is critical. They might be stronger in qualifying than in the race.
I don't doubt Kimi Raikkonen's pace, but Fernando Alonso is so well established there and I think he will make more of the complex new tools and levers that are available. There could well be a bit of tension in the garage but I think Alonso will come out on top.

McLaren
The young drivers coming through is going to be one of the stories of the year for me, and there's no doubt that Kevin Magnussen has already made a strong impression at McLaren. The vastly experienced Jenson Button will miss his late father hugely but he is such a professional that he will come through.
Again they will be strong with the Mercedes engine but there might be an early issue with their absolute pace. They move to Honda power next year and the people at Mercedes will be determined to give absolutely nothing away, which could cause friction.

Williams
Really impressive. They have the Mercedes engine, which is the best, they have a strong driver pairing, a good chassis, new technical personnel and new sponsorship. It's great to see Williams looking good again.
An invigorated Felipe Massa is a better option than Pastor Maldonado and Valtteri Bottas will be even stronger in his second season. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they won a race.

Lotus
They have lost their momentum, with key personnel leaving. James Allison, their technical director, went to Ferrari, and so did Kimi Raikkonen. Losing Raikkonen and gaining Pastor Maldonado can only be seen as a negative. The team principal Eric Boullier, Romain Grosjean's mentor, has also left for McLaren.
They've had financial worries, too, the car was late to put in an appearance in testing and their Renault power unit is struggling. There are still gifted people there but I think they will take pain in the early races.

Force India
Again they have the Mercedes engine, which is the best plug-and-play unit out there. I see them as the dark horses, along with Williams. I'm a massive fan of Nico Hülkenberg. Whatever he's driven, he's absolutely shone but I think Sergio Pérez has a lot to prove after being relieved of his McLaren job.
They're a good outfit who know how to make a sensible, reliable package. They're an exciting team to watch, though unfortunately they could fall away from Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull because they don't have the budget to keep developing the car.

Sauber
Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutiérrez are not the most dynamic lineup but they will be solid. The team normally put together a sound if unspectacular package, and we'll see how they integrate the Ferrari engine.
We haven't seen too much of Sauber in testing. They're pretty quiet but they get the job done and I don't expect that to be any different in 2014. There may be there to pick up the pieces in some races but I don't yet have a feel for where they're at.

Toro Rosso
Like their parent team, Red Bull, they have had a really dismal pre-season integrating the new Renault power unit. Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniil Kvyat – a young driver with a lot to show – are their drivers. It might be a tough start for Kvyat if they struggle to do lots of laps. They say themselves that the season has come a month too early and a month in Formula One is a very long time. Toro Rosso haven't done the pit stops, the practice starts and race runs. So they have a lot of catching up to do.

Marussia
They seem pretty confident having done some decent lap times in testing, and ran quite a long time with their Ferrari power unit. In the first half-dozen races, they will have a real chance of scoring points.
Max Chilton finished every race in his rookie season and I think he's better than his reputation. Jules Bianchi is a very strong driver, too, and is going places in F1. They are a small team with limited resources but if they get to the end of races they might steal some decent points.

Caterham
They've struggled to do many laps but they have looked the most successful of the Renault cars. The car looks pug-ugly and doesn't seem quick. Let's wait and see what they can do. Again, they are a small team with limited resources in a year where evolution is going to be almost vertical. I don't sense that they are as confident as Marussia but again they could steal a few points. It's going to be last man standing in the first few races.
