Lewis Grabban aiming to get right back in the scoring habit with Nottingham Forest as 20-goal mark looms

Lewis Grabban is not a player who likes to set himself targets – but he does admit his frustration at seeing injury stall his efforts to break the 20-goal barrier this season.

And he hopes to get right back in the scoring habit as he returns for the final eight games of the Championship season.

Nottingham Forest have missed the 16-goal forward while he has spent a month on the sidelines with the Achilles problem that has dogged him for much of the campaign.

And the player himself admits it has been a frustrating time for him.

Lewis Grabban celebrates his second goal for Nottingham Forest against Aston Villa with Joe Lolley (Dan Westwell)

But as he prepares to make his return to the squad against Swansea, after the international break, Grabban says that he does feel fit enough to get right back into the fray.

“It was frustrating, in terms of slowing down on the goal tally. But there are still a few games left and I hope to get some decent performances in, before the end of the season, and we will see where that takes me (goal wise),” said Grabban.

Lewis Grabban explains why Nottingham Forest can be optimistic - if they can just sneak into the play-offs

“I would like to think I am fit and ready to go back in, fitness wise, in terms of my general levels.

“I have a few hard sessions ahead of me, I imagine, before the game. But then it will just be getting that fitness from games, hopefully, if I do play. That is the manager’s decision.

“At the moment I feel good, I hope I will be available for selection for the remaining eight games.

Notts County have reasons for hope but why would anyone buy them until relegation battle is decided?

“That is the plan – for me to be ready for Swansea. I will be working with the rest of the lads, doing everything they do on the training ground. It will then be up to the manager whether I get picked or not, hopefully.”

Grabban says he is looking forward to working more with Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane on the training ground, having had his opportunities limited over the past month, by that injury.

“It has been fine (working with the duo), although I have not been available as much as I would like,” said Grabban. “I have not been able to train enough, to be able to make a fair assessment of things.

“But now I am back and feel better; I will hopefully get to see much more.”
