Lewis Ferguson stuns Aberdeen with transfer request as agent opens up on rejected £1.2m Watford bid

Lewis Ferguson has stunned Aberdeen by handing in a transfer request after having a £1.2m move to newly promoted English Premier League Watford rejected by the Dons.

The Scotland Under-21 midfielder is desperate to play in the English top flight and wants to push the move through.

Aberdeen are believed to have indicated they are willing to allow Ferguson, who has three years left on his contract, to leave - but not at the price Watford have offered.

The Pittodrie outfit haven't named a price at which they'll sell but Aberdeen legend Willie Miller reckons the bidding should start at £4m.

The move by Ferguson and his agent Bill McMurdo, though, has cranked up the pressure on Dons to sell as the former Hamilton youngster has made it clear to new boss Stephen Glass that he sees his future in England, despite being linked with both halves of the Old Firm.

McMurdo told Record Sport: "I can confirm that Lewis has handed in a written transfer request to Aberdeen.

"When he signed the extension to his contract, he made it clear that he saw his future in the English Premier League.

"An English Premier League club has now made an offer, which has been rejected, but the club involved haven't been given an asking price, which is disappointing."

A club statement read: "Aberdeen Football Club is greatly disappointed to have received a written transfer request from midfielder Lewis Ferguson today.

"This request, made after the Club dismissed what can only be described as an insulting offer from an English Premier League club for one of Scotland’s most talented young midfield players, was rejected immediately.

"The Club holds Lewis in the highest regard. Having made a significant investment to both acquire and develop Lewis, he has a bright future ahead of him as an integral part of Stephen Glass’s squad."
