Lewis Ferguson's transfer thinking as Rangers linked star's ultimate dream is revealed

Derek Ferguson has revealed son Lewis dreams of becoming an English Premier League standout during his career

The Aberdeen star has been strongly linked with a switch to Rangers - a team his dad and uncle Barry represented with distinction during their own storied careers.

Dons boss Derek McInnes has admitted this summer that he faces a battle to hold onto his three most valued assets in Ferguson, Sam Cosgrove and Scott McKenna.

Teams across Scotland are having to adapt as they look to recalibrate amid the COVID-19 pandemic that has spread misery across the globe.

And Ferguson Sr admits anyone who assumes a move to Ibrox is incoming for the 20-year-old is wide of the mark.

Speaking to Sportsound, he said: "Lewis is just someone that wants to better himself, he is at a brilliant club,

"I know what he wants to achieve. He wants to achieve, at some point of his carer, if he can, go down to England and play in the top league, he's got ambition."

And Ferguson believes his son is an example of the type of motivated Scottish player that's emerging as he admits he was blown away by the former Hamilton standout's work ethic during lockdown.

He added: "You can't stereotype all the young Scottish footballers in terms of saying they don't have that hunger, they don't have that desire, or will to make themselves a better footbalelr.

"He trained like an absolute demon, there were programmes that were sent through from the sports scientists but he would do other wee bits and bobs.

"By the time he left, I think he was with us five, six weeks, before he went back up to Aberdeen, the nick of him, It was phenomenal.

"On social media, most of the other players have been very professional because they have worked their socks off."
