Lewis Ferguson makes Hibs third place admission and insists Aberdeen have 'turned a corner'

Lewis Ferguson admits a third placed finish is out of Aberdeen’s hands.

The Dons are battling Hibs to finish best of the rest in the Scottish Premiership, with Jack Ross’ men leading the charge with a four point gap.

Motherwell’s 2-0 win at Easter Road on Saturday meant Aberdeen didn’t lose any ground on the Hibees, although they have a game in hand against Ross County and can move seven points clear with a win.

There are just eight matches left for the Pittdorie club to reel Hibs in although Ferguson hopes that’s still enough time for more twists and turns before anything is settled.

“It is not really down to us at the minute,” he said. “Hibs are obviously in control of that so it is down to them and whether they want to get that spot or not. We can just do all we can as we are pushing as hard as possible.

“We obviously want that and that was in our sights at the start of the season. It is still our aim, but it is not in our hands at the minute.

“We have plenty of games to go and if we can pick up as many points as we want then you never know. It might get us that third spot.”

Aberdeen have won just twice in their last nine games, although the recent victory over Kilmarnock and improved showing against Celtic shows they’re on the right track according to Ferguson.

He added: “We went through a bad spell of not getting results and not performing well.

“We have turned that corner in the last few weeks.

“We won against Kilmarnock and the performance was decent and it was decent again against Celtic, although it was not good enough to win, so we still have to get better.

“I do think we did go through a bad spell where it was bad performances that was losing us games. Against Celtic, there was a bit of luck involved.

“We have turned a corner and just have to keep going until the end of the season.”
