Lewis Ferguson in Rangers and Celtic challenge as Aberdeen star insists they can compete at the top

Lewis Ferguson believes Aberdeen have the squad to challenge the Old Firm for trophies this season.

The Dons face the Hoops in the Premiership on Sunday knowing a win will take them level with Neil Lennon’s team in the league table.

"The sides meet again next weekend at Hampden in last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final – before this year’s Betfred and Scottish Cup campaigns.

Ferguson said: “This is a good chance for us to get level with Celtic in the table and we want to push the Old Firm as far as we can go.

“Our squad is capable of doing that so we hope to sustain a challenge until the end of the season.

"We’ve got the squad and quality to push the Old Firm. If we can get a decent result this weekend we’ll see where it takes us.

“The spotlight isn’t on us this season. All the talk is about the Old Firm. But there are three cup competitions for us to have a go at.”

Ferguson has been in sensational form so far this season with seven goals in 13 appearances.
