Lewis Ferguson a Napoli transfer 'target' as Serie A champions eye £15m move that could land Aberdeen huge windfall

Lewis Ferguson has been lined up for a mega £15 million move to Italian champions Napoli.

And that could land former club Aberdeen a chunky windfall due to their sell-on fee negotiated with Bologna for the Scotland star.

Former Dons and Hamilton Accies midfielder Ferguson became the highest-scoring Scot in Serie A this season since Denis Law for Torino in 1962 after netting seven league goals. He's hugely impressed since his £3 million transfer from Pittodrie last summer and has been linked with a big-money move to a string of Italian giants this summer including AC Milan and Juventus. But reports in Italy have revealed Napoli have targeted Ferguson because of the loss of Tanguy Ndombele, who has returned to Spurs after a season-long loan and Diego Demme, with the German international wanting a return to his homeland this transfer window.

Bologna have previously pledged not to sell Ferguson this summer. The club's sports director Giovanni Sartori said this month: "I'm not afraid of receiving phone calls for Lewis Ferguson this summer because he is part of the Bologna 2023/2024 technical project. That is confirmed."

However, they would find it hard to turn down a huge offer from Serie A champions Napoli, who are looking to strengthen ahead of their defence of the title. And with Aberdeen having reportedly inserted a sell-on clause when they sold Ferguson a year ago, they could be in line for a big financial boost if the player is sold. Ferguson, 23, made 23 appearances for Bologna in Serie A this season as he helped the club to a ninth-place finish under manager Thiago Motta.
