Lewis Crocker willing to bide his time ahead of ring return

Lewis Crocker says he would "love" to fight on this summer's Feile card but accepts he may have to wait for his ring return.

The unbeaten Belfast welterweight last fought on March 12 when he beat Deniz Ilbay over 10 gruelling rounds to defend his WBO European title.

All Irish boxing eyes are currently on Michael Conlan's massive Feile show this August, with Falls Park set to host several thousand fans for the outdoor event as Covid restrictions continue to ease.

Some of the names being linked with the undercard include Tyrone McKenna and Sean McComb, while Crocker's stablemate Padraig McCrory is also being lined up to appear.

"I am training away. I want to get on that Feile card but I'm not sure that will happen. I would have heard by now," Crocker said.

"It would be great fighting on that card. It is the biggest boxing event happening in Belfast this year, so of course I'd love to be involved.

"As long as my mate Pody (McCrory) is on it, that will be good. I will be happy if he is on it."

If Crocker misses out on the Feile, he could be compensated with a headline slot of his own.

It is understood a September date is being looked at for Crocker to top a bill in Belfast.

After fighting on the road for his last two bouts, it would be a welcome homecoming for the popular South Belfast boxer.

"There's talk of me headlining a show in Belfast, which would be great," Crocker added.

"It would be great to headline a show in front of fans. Having the crowds back and the atmosphere would be fantastic.

"I am comfortable with headlining a show. I have done it before and it comes with the territory when you're moving up.

"The attention comes with the job. I wasn't that fussed on it before, but I don't mind now.

"I am now sitting at the top table when it comes to the press conferences, whereas before I was falling off the sides!"
