Lewis Capaldi has a broken a UK albums chart record.
The West Lothian singer’s 2019 album, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’ has now passed the previous record for consecutive weeks in the charts.
On Friday, November 6, the East Whitburn singer-songwriter’s debut LP landed at Number nine on the UK’s latest official album chart, recording his 77th consecutive week in the Top 10.
The result means the album has passed the previous record of 76 consecutive weeks for a solo artist set by Ed Sheeran‘s 2017 album.
The good news comes after the singer regrettably announced that his beloved dog, Paddy, had passed away last week.
Lewis announced the death online and paid a sweet tribute to ‘the major’.
He confirmed the 16-year-old pooch had passed away as he shared a photo on Instagram.
Alongside the snap, 24-year-old Lewis wrote: “Rest in peace to the major”.
Paddy was a firm fixture on the singer’s social media feed, with the adorable dog featuring in a number of the star’s photos and videos.
The dog - who was often referred to as ‘the major’ - even made an appearance in one of the West Lothian singer’s most famous snaps where he posed in an 80s-style tracksuit with his signature funky glasses.
Earlier this year, Lewis revealed his dog was almost fully blind and was getting ‘old’ but was still ‘happy’.
He shared a photo of his pooch on his Instagram and wrote: “Today is my dog Paddy’s birthday. He is 16 (old) and mostly blind (sad) but still happy (good).”
Lewis has been back home in Scotland during lockdown penning songs for his much anticipated new album.
The star says he has 30 songs ready and is hoping to release the album next year at some point.
